A
minimum of 10 travelers is required for
Tangents tours. If a tour does not take place due to insufficient
enrollment or
any other reason, full payment is refunded. The maximum group size for
the 2013 Tangents tours are 15* not including Tangents or associated
staff.
*Under some circumstances 16 will be the max limit.
Additional cost: Entry Visa for U.S. citizens in Turkey: $20 USD (in cash to be
paid at Turkish Customs upon arrival at airport) There is also a $60 per night
additional charge for Single Supplement. (See Single Travelers and Single
Supplements Section)
The payment of a deposit or any
partial or full payment for the Tangents Turkey Music Tour constitutes
consent to all provisions of the conditions and general information
contained in this document.
Included: The tour covers double occupancy accommodations. It also covers bus
travel. Bottled water and snacks will be provided during long distance bus
travel
segments. You authorize Tangents to act on your behalf as your agent to purchase domestic Turkish
airline tickets, the cost of which is included in the total tour price. The tour covers Atatürk International Airport
(IST) airport pick-up first day of tour only and
drop-off on last day of tour only, breakfast and one
additional daily group meal. Most
people enjoy private/free time and the opportunity to explore and eat
on their
own once a day. Coffee (excluding exotic coffees), tea and bottled water are included for all
group meals.
The tour also covers admission to concerts
featuring some of the most accomplished musicians in Turkey, a Bosphorus
cruise, local guides and *most admission fees. Dore Steinberg and/or an assistant
will escort the group throughout the tour.
*In situations where there are optional costs beyond admission, you are responsible for those fees. For example, the tour covers the entry fee to the travertines of Pamukkale but not admission for swimming in the Pamukkale Thermal Baths. An exception is touring The Harem in Topkapi Palace. The Harem is a 'must see' experience, so the tour covers the Palace and Harem admission fees.
No refund will be given for unused tour services
after commencement of tour for any reason.
Not included: International
flights*, tips to guides, bus drivers, musicians and hotel staff at your
discretion.
*International flight tickets to and from Istanbul are at your own expense but Dore Steinberg is able to assist you with arrangements. Estimated range for roundtrip airfare from San Francisco to Istanbul is anyone's guess but in the past it has been $1000-$1300 for coach fare.
Drinks are extra other than coffee, tea and water
during group meals. Other items not included in the tour include but are not
limited to travel insurance, personal health insurance, inoculations and
vaccinations, any expenses prior to arrival in Turkey, meals
not specified as
being included, room service, laundry, telephone calls, internet costs, the costs
of additional personal items, your personal purchases, the single supplement if
you choose a single hotel room, and other items not specifically mentioned
above.
Deposit: A non-refundable, non-transferable
$500.00 deposit by check, cash, or money order (not credit card) per person is
required to ensure your reservation. Tour members who make a deposit must make
payment in full by February 1 for the spring 2013 tour and June 15 for the fall 2013 tour.
If full payment is not received by due date, trip reservation can be revoked at discretion of Dore Steinberg (tour operator). On advancement of deposit to Tangents, you thereby agree to be bound by the recited terms and conditions of the "Fine Print" including the "Limitations of Liability" and the "Cancellation Policy".
Tour members must print out the "Fine Print"
and sign and date the last page, and initial each page. Deposits must be
accompanied by the signed and initialed "Fine Print" to be accepted.
Refunds: No refund shall be made for any unused portion of any tour activity such as voluntarily
missed meals, sightseeing, concerts, transport, etc. after the tour has
commenced. Nor will any refund be given to you if you do not complete
any portion of the itinerary for whatever reason.
Baggage or valuables brought on the tour shall be transported, handled or stored at the passenger’s risk entirely, and Dore Steinberg (from now on referred to as Tangents) shall bear no liability or responsibility for any damage or other loss thereto.
Should
you need to cancel the tour, you must notify Tangents in writing.
Cancellation refunds will be calculated as of the date your hand
written cancellation is received. A confirmation letter notifying you
that Dore Steinberg has received your cancellation notice will be
mailed to you.
For the 2013 Spring Tangents Turkey Music Tour cancellation fees are described below.

Limitations of Liability: Tangents Radio is a
Sole Proprietorship registered in California by owner Dore Steinberg.
Dore Steinberg (from now on referred to
as Tangents) is not liable for anything that
happens to you or your belongings, for
any reason, whether as a result of Tangents negligence, or as the
result of the actions of anyone else’s actions or failure to act.
Anything that happens to you may include but is not limited to: injury,
death, loss, accident, delay, or being victimized by fraud or scam when making
personal purchases.
The
Tangents tour includes activities that expose you to physical
risk such as hiking, climbing among caves, and a balloon ride (that is
not part of the tour but available for an extra charge from a third
party), among other activities. There is also extensive walking, some of it up steep hills and steps during the tour.
Tangents hereby gives notice that services provided in
connection with the Tangents Turkey Tour including travel services, hotel
accommodations, and dining are purchased from independent
suppliers who are not affiliated with Tangents in any way.
Tangents is not responsible for damages, additional expenses, or any other losses due to cancellation, delay or other changes in air schedules or other services, sickness, weather, strike, war, civil disturbances, acts or threats of terrorism, travel warnings or bans, quarantine, bird flu, or acts commonly referred to as force majeure. All such losses must be borne by you, and tour rates provide for arrangements only for the time stated.
If you get ill, injured, or cannot resume travel with the group, all resulting expenses are borne by you. You are aware that medical services and facilities may not be readily available throughout the duration of the tour. You recognize that such risks may be present at any time during the tour.
You bear full risk for all personal purchases during the Tangents
tour. Additionally, you assume full risk for all personal puchases
prior to or subsequent to the tour with merchants associated with the Tangents
tour whether in Turkey, or anywhere, such as the United States. You should exercise caveat emptor, as the buyer alone is
responsible for assessing the quality of a purchase before buying. This is
especially important when purchasing big ticket art items such as carpets and
pottery. For significant purchases Tangents recommends receiving written terms
of exchange/return/refund.
You fully
assume all risk of the above hazards
and hereby release and discharge Tangents and our agents from all
actions,
claims or demands resulting from your willing participation in the
tour, even if the action, claim, or demand arises from negligence on
our part or the part of our agents or suppliers.
You are aware that this is a release of liability and a contract between you
and Dore Steinberg and that you sign it of your own free will. This
release of liability is binding on you, your heirs and successors as well as anyone else who may believe they have a claim
based upon something that may happen to you.
Independent Travel: Should you decide to not travel with the group or not participate in a group activity, Tangents bears no responsibility or liability whatsoever in connection with any injury, death, loss, sickness, accident or delay which may be occasioned.
Should you decide to travel independently from the group such as renting a car instead of taking the tour bus, or not flying with the group within Turkey, you must sign an additional release of liability contract that acknowledges you left the group during the tour on your on free will (even if temporarily) and release Tangents from any responsibility that may result from your action(s).
Non-group activities are borne at your expense. Tangents is released from
any responsibility that may result from your actions.
If you choose to leave a group activity, such as leaving a
concert early or staying late after the group has left, Tangents is released
from any responsibility that may result from your actions and you pay all related expenses.
Cancellation: Tangents
reserves the right to cancel any tour prior to departure for any reason such as
insufficient enrollment.
All monies paid will be refunded and this will constitute full settlement. Tangents will not be responsible for any expenses that have incurred as a result of your booking, such as international airfare.
Tangents strongly recommends you purchase trip cancellation and
interruption insurance as this may provide coverage under such circumstances.
Trip Cancellation Insurance: Trip cancellation and interruption insurance is highly recommended.

Illness and injury remain the
most common reasons that prevent travel. Change of mind is not covered
unless you have "Cancel for Any Reason" insurance which is about 50% more expensive. Many
companies insist that if you will be claiming a pre-existing medical
condition, you buy the insurance within 14 days of your initial tour
payment. Normal comprehensive travel insurance (that insures theft as well), ranges between $250-$300.
Changing conditions in Turkey may necessitate itinerary modification before or after the tour has departed. Passengers will be responsible for all increased costs associated with en route itinerary changes or changes in means of conveyance, hotels, tour guides, etc.
Tangents also reserves the right to change common carriers and substitute hotels with properties of similar standard when necessary. Care is taken in the contracting of all services, however we cannot be responsible for the errors or omissions of the suppliers or services.
Responsible Behavior: You assume responsibility to select a tour most appropriate to your physical ability and interests. You are responsible for being in sufficiently good health to undertake the tour and may be required to obtain a physician’s release.
You will walk a substantial amount especially in Cappadocia and Ephesus. Walking in Istanbul can be as hilly as San Francisco. There will also be hiking and modest climbing in Cappadocia. Mardin will have steep uneven stairways.
Damage to property or premises of any entity or agent that Tangents contracts such as a hotel is borne solely and entirely by the tour member responsible for the damage.
You must abide by the authority of the Tour Leader and/or local agents and
guides. Any cause of danger, distress or annoyance to the group will be acted
upon. Any expenses incurred from removal from a tour will be your
responsibility. In case of a dispute about the tour, litigation will be settled
in the courts of San Francisco.
Medical Insurance and Certification: You will be required to provide proof of medical insurance. Everyone
in the group should understand their coverage. Tangents will not pay for any
expenses incurred for medical reasons. If you are aged 75 or older, you will be
required to have a physician complete a questionnaire which assesses your
ability to travel.
For Americans covered by medical insurance at home, you're likely covered while traveling abroad. But you need to call your company and check the extent of your coverage in Turkey. Find out in advance if your insurance plan will make payments directly to providers or reimburse you later for overseas health expenditures. In Turkey, doctors generally expect payment in cash. It is also important to learn if your insurance will cover repatriation home during a medical emergency or to better medical facilities elsewhere in Turkey.
Some supplemental insurance options are limited to Americans and Canadians. One
option for other Nationals is travelhealthinsurance.net. That will not likely cover preexisting medical conditions for the last
3 years. Generally, $50,000 worth
of coverage should cost about $50.
Other sorts of insurance also may cover medical expenses such as:
— A Trip Cancellation policy may include limited medical protection. Read your
policy carefully and know what's covered.
— If you use a premium credit card ("gold," "platinum,"
etc) and pay for transportation services with it, you may have some flight
protection, and also medical coverage. Get an up-to-date version
of your Credit
Card Agreement (probably available online), read the terms, and know what
coverage you have.
You can get no-obligation price quotes on all sorts of policies at sites such
as tripinsurancestore.com and insuremytrip.com. The latter is recommended by Turkey travel expert Tom Brosnahan.
Tell them Tom recommended it if you talk to them. It may make them more accountable.
Another possibility is Travel Guard International.
Single Travelers and Single Supplements:
If you want to have your own room throughout the tour, you must pay a single
supplement. Payment of a single supplement ($60/night) will ensure that you are
provided with your own room. $960 single supplement cost ($60 X 16) is due when full payment is made.
There may be pensions or hotels that do not have sufficient capacity to
guarantee a single room and in those cases we will either find a guest
house with a single room or refund the $60 for the night.
Selection of a single room once the tour
has begun is subject to availability in each overnight stay. In such
instances ($60 per night) must be made immediately to Dore Steinberg in
USD, Euro or Turkish Lira.
Single-Share Program: Tangents has a single-share program where Dore Steinberg selects another single
traveler as your roommate. Tangents will endeavor to find a share partner for you.
The Tangents Tour is not responsible for roommate incompatibility for any
reason. But Dore Steinberg will try to find a more suitable roommate when possible.
If
a roommate is not assigned, the Tangents tour will cover no more than one single supplement accommodation per tour at no extra cost.
May 2013 Tour
If
a roommate is not assigned, the Tangents tour will cover no more than one single accommodation at no extra cost if the Tangents tour member pays the May tour
cost in full by January 31, 2013.
If
a subsequent Tangents tour member pays May tour cost in full by January
31, 2013 and the Tangents tour is already covering one single
accommodation at no extra cost for a Tangents tour member, the
subsequent May tour member will be required to pay the single supplement fee if no
roommate is available.
For Tangents tour members who pay tour cost in full after
January 31, 2013 for the May tour and no roommate is available, $960 single supplement
cost ($60 X 16) must be paid and postmarked on or before March 5, 2013.
If
payment is not postmarked by March 5, the Tangents tour payment
schedule is in violation and it is up to the discretion of Dore
Steinberg whether to accept late payment and permit the Tangents tour
member to join the tour.
If the tour member is not permitted to join the Tangents tour, all May cancellation fees apply. (See section "May Tour Cancellation Fees".)
If a full-time roommate emerges after the single supplement due dates, the $960 is refunded in full.
October 2013 Tour
If
a roommate is not assigned, the Tangents tour will cover no more than one single accommodation at no extra cost if the Tangents tour member pays the October tour
cost in full by February 15, 2013.
If
a subsequent Tangents tour member pays October tour cost in full by
February 15, 2013 and the Tangents tour is already covering one single
accommodation at no extra cost for a Tangents tour member, the
subsequent October tour member will be required to pay the single supplement fee if no
roommate is available.
For Tangents tour members who pay tour cost in full after February 15, 2013 for the October tour and no roommate is available, $960 single supplement
cost ($60 X 16) must be paid and postmarked by August 6, 2013.
If
payment is not postmarked by August 6, the Tangents tour payment schedule is in
violation and it is up to the discretion of Dore Steinberg whether to
accept late payment and permit the Tangents tour member to join the
tour.
If the tour member is not permitted to join the Tangents tour, all October cancellation fees apply. (See section "October Tour Cancellation Fees".)
If a full-time roommate emerges after the single supplement due dates, the $960 is refunded in full.
Photographic Permission: You grant Tangents express permission to keep a photographic
record of its tours for promotional and commercial use.
