World Village | Natalia M. King | Soulblazz (N) | Stronger Than I |
Natalia M. King Soulblazz ($75 pledge) Natalia M. King carries the heritage of black music in her soul, its rhythmical groove as well as its strong sense of identity and passionate commitment. The tracks on Soulblazz pulse to the power of three: the spirituality of soul, the intensity of the blues and the aestheticism of jazz, to which the singer injects the energy of her rock roots. So don't be surprised should your ears echo the spirits of Nina Simone, Thelonious Monk and Janis Joplin. Spring Membership Drive | |||

Birds Requiem (N) | Sevdah (to Jon Hassell) |
Birds Requiem ($75 pledge) Oudist/Vocalist Dhafer Youssef is in a class by himself when it comes to fusing Arabic stylings with jazz, classical, and beyond. His spellbinding impassioned vocals are like no other. This album is extra special because two of my favorite Turkish musicians, Hüsnü Şenlendirici, clarinet and Aytaç Doğan, kanun (2/3 Taksim Trio who were part of the 2007 Tangents Turkey Music Tour) play prominent roles on this album.
