Patty Griffin American Kid ($75 pledge) Patty's new album American Kid has been the most played CD this year during the 8 PM Americana-leaning hour of Tangents. Griffin is an original songwriter and this album is a triumph of her writing and expressive singing. She wrote most of these songs after learning of her father's impending death. These songs are mostly acoustic with traces of early blues, various American folk styles, gospel, and vintage country music. This is music that connects with the soul. Fall Membership Drive | |||

Adnan Joubran Borders Behind ($75 pledge) Borders Behind is the solo debut of Palestinian oudist Adnan Joubran. He is best known as the youngest of three brothers in what must be the world's greatest oud trio: Le Trio Joubran. I knew Adnan as a master oudist but this album reveals his skills at composing with emotional strength. Borders Behind is a Tangential cross-pollinating tour-de-force combining Middle Eastern, flamenco and Indian influences. The recording features collaborations with diverse artists such as Spanish saxophonist and flutist Jorge Pardo, versatile and experimental tabla player Prabhu Edouard, and French cellist Valentine Moussou.
