Sony Classical Yo-Yo Ma & the Silk Road Ensemble Sing Me Home (N) Little Birdie
Tangents CD Thank You gift:
Yo-Yo Ma & the Silk Road Ensemble Sing Me Home ($75 pledge)

Sing Me Home is the sixth album by the Silk Road Ensemble and its founding member and guiding light, Yo-Yo Ma.
This is a companion album, developed and recorded alongside the outstanding music documentary released earlier this year: The Music of Strangers. (highly recommended!)
Sing Me Home examines the ever-changing idea of home, with original and traditional tunes composed or arranged by members of the Ensemble's unique collective of global artists.
Each piece invites listeners to explore the music of home through the individual experiences of Ensemble members, many of whom are immigrants.
The result is a compelling collection of innovative and deeply moving tributes to the rich cultural heritage of the Balkans, China, Galicia, India, Iran, Ireland, Japan, Mali people of Roma, Syria and the United States.
It features noteworthy guest artists including guitarist Bill Frisell, kora player Toumani Diabaté, Indian sitarist Shujaat Khan, Syrian singer Dima Orsho and bagpiper (gaita) Cristina Pato's Galician band Rustica, For the first time, American folk music is represented with singer Rhiannen Giddens and banjoist Abigail Washburn.

Mack Avenue Records Alfredo Rodriguez Tocororo (N) Gitanerías, feat. Antonio Lizanai, Flamenco guitar & vocal
Tangents CD Thank You gift: Alfredo Rodriguez Tocororo ($75 pledge)
Tocororo is thus far my favorite album of 2016. Cuban pianist Alfredo Rodriguez burst on the scene as a monster pianist and that was emphatically verified when I saw him perform a couple years ago at the SFJAZZ Center Joe Henderson Lab. He combines talent with oodles of charisma.
This album marks a new dimension in his evolution as Alfredo showcases abundant versatility. The music ranges from Cuban to tango, flamenco to Indian and compositions that bring The Bad Plus to mind.
There's an international cast of musicians, including the Tangential vocal discovery of 2016, Indian singer Ganavya Doraiswamy. Other Tangents regulars assisting Alfredo include trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf, the French/Cuban twins Ibeyi and Cameroonian singer and bassist, Richard Bona.
World jazz does not get much better than this.
